Summer's Arrival

School is done for the summer!  So we'll be seeing a lot more activity at the park during the days.  Thank you to everyone in the community that helps to keep the park safe, clean and enjoyable for all park users.

We are enjoying green grass, shady tree canopies and vibrant blooms without much effort - thanks to the rain.

Our garden shed is due to arrive within the next two weeks. Stay tuned!

May Blooms

Things are already growing wild in our flowerbeds!  After the May long weekend, once you've had a chance to work on your home gardens, we'll meet in the park on Tuesday May 26, at 6:30 p.m. to do some tending!

A welcome new installation as we await the date of arrival for our garden shed.  These facilities will help us keep the park in great shape.

The muscari finally made an appearance.  It's adding some beautiful colour to the west slope.

We enjoyed a beautiful morning in the park on Saturday, sprucing up the park with friends. Stay tuned for our next Roseneath Park work-meet.  Saturday's Community Clean Up Day was just the beginning!

Clean Up Saturday April 18

The park is not looking its best these days, but all it'll take is a bit of spring rain and a litter pick up to get it in shape.  Toronto's Community Clean Up is taking place this Saturday April 18.  Roseneath Park will be participating at 10 a.m.  We hope you will join us!  It's a great way to welcome spring and meet your neighbours.
Bring your own gloves and rake.  Garbage bags will be provided.  If you can donate a yard waste bag, that would be most appreciated!

The toys are coming back to Roseneath Park.  We ask park users, especially toy users, to please help  in keeping the park safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Please note, the toys were donated to the park anonymously last season.  That means, although the Friends of Roseneath Park were not the ones to donate the toys, we have taken on the additional task of helping to maintain order and safety in relation to the toys.  This was a lot of work and it got a bit overwhelming last season, so we ask anyone who enjoys the toys to also help out.  Keep the following in mind:

• Please do not donate toys directly to the park.  If you have a toy that is safe, intact and appropriate for outdoor use, contact us and we will let you know if we need additional toys.  Last year, we received several complaints about too many toys being dumped in the park, and we were overwhelmed with trying to dispose of and maintain them.  
• Only safe, intact and outdoor worthy toys will be left in the park.
• Stuffed animals are not appropriate for extended outdoor use.  If you see stuffed animals left in the park, they should be disposed of.
• Toys that are broken are not safe to leave in the park.  Please dispose of broken toys immediately.  Every child deserves to play with safe, unbroken toys.
• Toys that require assembly are not appropriate for the park.  The pieces will be scattered and we simply can't maintain and reassemble toys at the rate needed.  Plus, they may pose a choking hazard to our youngest park users.  Let's keep toys with small pieces that require assembly out of the park. 
• Plastic sandboxes hold water and take up a lot of space.  We have a large sand pit that is maintained by the Parks Dept.; plastic sand boxes will not remain in the park. 
• I have stored whatever toys I could over the winter.  Unfortunately, the larger toys that were left in the park did not survive the winter.  The plastic cracked, making the toys unsafe and they were disposed of.  Next winter, we hope to have use of a shed on the park premises to use for seasonal storage.
• The parks department has asked that toys be kept off the path and in the sandbox.  The path should be kept clear for the safety and enjoyment of all park users.

March Thaw 2015

 Wow!  That was a lot of snow.  I think we are all looking forward to spring and, with the milder weather, many of us have already made our first trip of 2015 to Roseneath Park.  (Of course, if you have a dog, you've been going to the park all along no matter what the weather!)  Here's what's in store for the season:

• We've signed up again for the city's annual Community Clean Up Day, which will take place on April 18th, at 10:00 a.m.  More info will be posted closer to the day. 
• The toys will be put out when the park is fully thawed and a bit more dry.
• We hope to get a small, secure garden shed put in this spring.  It will give us much needed storage and an official meeting place and allow us to host bi-weekly gardening sessions throughout the season. 
• We are looking forward to seeing our 13 new trees add to the green canopy of our park.  Look for an invitation to Adopt-a-Tree, a program we will organize to help our new trees survive their fragile first season.
• We can't wait to see the bulbs we planted last fall in bloom.  This should happen in the next few weeks!

End of Season Meet

Our final Roseneath Park meet of 2014 will take place on Saturday November 15 at 10 a.m.  It'll be sunny but cold, so bundle up.  With a small group of volunteers, we should be able to check everything off the list in under an hour. 

We'll do an end of season clean up including:

- asking volunteers to store and/or dispose of the plastic toys in the park
- cleaning up the compost heap on the west slope (bring a shovel for this task!)
- cleaning up the flower beds for the winter
- asking volunteers to adopt one of our new trees! ( No work will be required on the trees until next spring.)

We accomplished a lot this season: a hydro connection, over a dozen new trees, a thousand bulbs, the mosaics, and more.  Hurray, Friends of Roseneath Park!
